A Little Nervous About This

I’ll be honest: starting my own business is a little scary.

For a long time, ceramics has been something I could simply make. I could spend hours thinking about a form, carving a surface, experimenting with porcelain, or trying to get a glaze just right. There was something comforting about the process. The clay didn’t care whether anyone was going to buy the finished piece.

Starting Borealis Tiger Studio feels different.

Now there’s a website. A name. A logo. Product photos. Prices. Packaging. Shipping. And, eventually, customers who will decide whether they actually want something I made.

That last part is probably what makes me the most nervous.

It’s one thing to make something because I love it. It’s another thing to put it out into the world and say, Here. I made this. Maybe you’ll love it too.

I’m also realizing how much goes into building a small creative business that has very little to do with actually making ceramics. I’ve been learning about websites, domains, online shops, payment systems, packaging, shipping, photography, and all the little details I never thought about when I was simply a person making pots.

There have definitely been moments when I’ve wondered whether I’m making this much harder than it needs to be.

But I think that’s part of starting something new.

Borealis Tiger Studio is still very much a work in progress. I don’t have everything figured out, and I don’t expect to. I’m starting small, learning as I go, and trying to build something that feels genuine to the kind of work I want to make.

I’m especially excited about where this might lead. I want to continue exploring porcelain, traditional techniques, carving, translucency, and the relationship between form and surface. I want to experiment, make mistakes, learn new things, and slowly develop a body of work that feels distinctly my own.

So yes, I’m nervous.

But I think being nervous probably means I care.

This website is my little step toward putting that work out into the world. It may change quite a bit as I learn and grow, but for now, I’m happy to finally open the door.
