Obvara Raku Long-Neck Vase
Earthy, organic, and quietly striking, this handmade ceramic vase celebrates the unpredictable beauty of fire and surface transformation.
The elongated neck rises gracefully from a softly rounded body, creating a sculptural silhouette that feels both timeless and contemporary. A warm, pale cream finish transitions into rich earthy browns and charcoal tones across the body, revealing the distinctive mottling and organic patterns characteristic of the Obvara raku firing technique. By dunking the red-hot vessel in a fermented flour solution, flecks, tonal variations, and subtle surface markings form where the carbon from the flour gets trapped in the clay, giving the piece a weathered, almost elemental character, with no two areas quite alike.
Created through a process that embraces chance and experimentation, this vase highlights the relationship between form, flame, and the natural variations that emerge during firing. Its restrained palette and elegant proportions make it a distinctive accent for a minimalist interior, a thoughtfully styled shelf, or a collection of sculptural ceramics.
